As your constituent and a strong advocate in the fight against cancer, I urge you to address the needs of cancer patients and survivors by passing the health reform bill that is expected to come up for a vote this week.

Cancer patients and survivors have some of the most difficult experiences with our health care system at a time in their lives when they are most vulnerable. I want you to make sure the needs of cancer patients and survivors are addressed in the health reform debate.

As a supporter of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R) Advocacy Alliance, along with cancer patients and survivors around the country, I urge you to support health care priorities that will help ease the burden for people battling cancer:

*  End insurance discrimination based on pre-existing conditions.  
*  Ensure cancer screening is widely available.  
*  Limit out-of-pocket medical costs.  
*  Help underserved women make the most effective use of health care services.  
*  Remove barriers to participation in clinical trials.

Cancer costs the U.S. $228 billion each year in medical costs and lost productivity. It claims more than 565,000 lives each year and inflicts incalculable physical pain and emotional distress on cancer patients and their families. We must take this opportunity to address the needs of cancer patients and survivors by making a strong investment in the fight against cancer.
