In Wisconsin, there is a significant difference in the coverage insurance companies provide for orally administered anti-cancer medications versus coverage for traditional intravenous treatments.
That means the out-of-pocket costs to cancer patients for an oral drug can be significantly higher than what they would pay for a traditional intravenous treatment.
Right now LRB 4490 is before the Wisconsin legislature. This bill would require health insurance plans to provide coverage for oral cancer drugs on a basis no less favorable than the coverage provided for intravenously-administered chemotherapy.
