Help Save the Lives of Ohio Women!

Save women's lives in Ohio!

Right now, the state is slashing funding for breast cancer screening programs that is critical to saving women's lives in Ohio.

The Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Project provides breast and cervical cancer screening to under and un-insured patients. But, under the current state budget, funding for the vital program may be cut by nearly 70 percent. That's why we need your help.

Please, write your state leaders now and tell them to restore funding for this critical program. It's easy to do, just fill out the form below:

Subject: Honor Your Commitment to Ohio's Women

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As your constituent and as someone who cares deeply about breast and cervical cancer, I am asking our state government to maintain critical funding for the Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Project (Ohio BCCP).

The Ohio BCCP program provides free mammograms, clinical breast exams, and pap tests for under-insured and un-insured Ohio women, acting as an important safety net to those in need. In these tough economic times, this program is all the more important, as more Ohioans may find themselves out of work and without insurance.

As you may know, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in U.S. women. Over 6,700 Ohio mothers, daughters, sisters and loved ones will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and nearly 1,800 of them will lose their battle with the disease. But, when breast cancer is detected early, patients have more treatment options and a greater rate of survival.

Last year Ohio BCCP received $5 million in state support to provide critical screening services - but for FY 2010-11, the Governor has proposed only $1.6 million in funding. This nearly 70 percent reduction in funding will mean dramatic cuts to services to the uninsured of Ohio - putting thousands of women at risk.

I hope you will stand with me in supporting this critical funding that will help save Ohio women's lives.

Sincerely,
