Subject: Save Lives: Help Fight Breast Cancer
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
This year, more than 215,000 women nationwide will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die from the disease. As your constituent, and as an advocate for local women and families affected by breast cancer, I urge you to quickly reauthorize the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) and the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).
There is no known cure for breast cancer, and early detection is key to surviving the disease. These programs have saved lives by helping ensure patient access to quality breast cancer care. NBCCEDP provides vital screening services to low-income and underinsured women. For over a decade, the MQSA has made mammography a safer and more accurate tool for detecting breast cancer early by implementing federal safety and quality standards.
I hope that you will stand with me, and the thousands of families affected by breast cancer, by reauthorizing the NBCCEDP and the MQSA without delay.

About MQSA
This year alone in the United States, almost 216,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 40,000 will die from this devastating disease. High quality care and accurate reading of mammograms are essential to early detection of breast cancer.
Over a decade ago, Congress recognized the importance of high quality mammography screening by passing the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), which established national standards of care for mammography facilities, for personnel (including doctors who interpret mammograms), for equipment, and for operating procedures. Right now, Congress is considering reauthorizing the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), legislation that has made mammography a safer, more accurate tool for detecting breast cancer.
About NBCCEDP
Thousands of women cannot afford health insurance or potentially life-saving medical services like breast cancer screening. These are the same women who are at higher risk to die from breast cancer because they are more likely to be diagnosed at later stages when there are fewer treatment options.
Thirteen years ago, Congress created the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) to provide breast and cervical cancer screening, outreach and case management services for women with little or no health insurance. The NBCCEDP is essential to ensure access to potentially life-saving breast cancer screening for women who could not otherwise afford it. This program has saved the lives of thousands of women, and with increased funding, it will continue to reach more women and save more lives.
